Mrs. Abbie Gail Parham was an assistant professor of accounting in the School of Accountancy here at Georgia Southern University. She retired on August 1, 2017 and was awarded emeritus status on September 24, 2018. She holds a BBA and MBA from Georgia Southern University. Prior to joining the faculty at Georgia Southern University she worked as a staff accountant in a local accounting firm and as a controller for a manufacturing subsidiary of a Fortune 500 company. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Georgia Society of CPAs, the Institute of Management Accountants, and a number of other professional organizations. She has served the Georgia Society of CPAs and the Institute of Management Accountants in leadership positions at the local, state, regional and national levels. She is a member of several honor societies included Beta Alpha Psi, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Phi Kappa Phi. Mrs. Parham taught managerial accounting (Acct 2012), survey of accounting for non-business majors (Acct 2030), and accounting for managers (BUSA 3134). Mrs. Parham received recognition for her teaching and service activities. She was chosen as the Professor of the Year in the School of Accountancy in 1996, 1999, 2002, and 2008. In 1999 she received the W.A. and Emma Lou Crider Award for Excellence in Teaching in the College of Business Administration and the Dean’s Citation for Student Engagement in 2012. She received the Excellence in Service Award from the School of Accountancy in 2003 and the Ori James Faculty Recognition Award for outstanding support of Beta Alpha Psi in 2001.
