About
Prof. Mincer joined Georgia Southern University in 1998 and retired in 2025.
— Biography from the 2025 Spring Commencement program —
Dr. Mincer earned an AA (1971) from Pensacola Junior College, a BHS (1981) from the University of Florida, an MS (1990) from Georgia State University, and an EdD (2011) from Georgia Southern University. Her clinical physical therapy practice involved a variety of settings, including general outpatient, inpatient rehabilitation, home care and, until recently, acute care. While she enjoyed clinical practice, she found her real calling in teaching physical therapy, which was the focus of her professional life for almost 30 years. She joined the founding faculty just after the program began at Armstrong State College, and her consistent focus on active learning led her to become a strong proponent of Team-based Learning (TBL) and a certified TBL Consultant-Trainer. Dr Mincer’s teaching responsibilities have included teaching or assisting with orthopedics, prosthetics, wound care, pelvic health, oncologic rehabilitation, acute care, case management, research methodology, evidence-based practice, and clinical synthesis. She also sought opportunities to teach or co-teach in undergraduate courses and guest-lectured in other programs. In recognition of her teaching, Dr. Mincer was awarded Armstrong’s Brockmeier Teaching Award in 2000; she was also selected to represent Armstrong as a Governor’s Teaching Fellow in 2007, and she received the Georgia Southern Health Professions’ Faculty Teaching Award in 2019. Dr. Mincer served most recently as the Physical Therapy Program Director, but she also served short stints as the Interim Department Chair of Rehabilitation Sciences and as the Program’s Interim Director of Clinical Education. She also served as the University’s Interim Director of the freshman Common Read, was a faculty associate for the PRISM science and math partnership with K-12 educators, and was an active participant in various multi-disciplinary Scholarship of Teaching and Learning collaborations. Nearly all of her state, national and international conference presentations and publications have been related to the scholarship of teaching and learning. For these several contributions to the institution, its students, and her profession, Dr. Mincer is deserving of the title Associate Professor Emerita of Physical Therapy.*
