Prof. Hamilton joined Georgia Southern University in 1992 and retired in 2015. They are now deceased.

Ms. Hamilton holds degrees from the University of Montevallo (B.A., Mathematics and History), Mississippi State University (M.A., History), Emory University (D.A.S.L. and M.Ln., Librarianship), and a Certificate of Archives Administration from the Georgia Department of Archives and History. At the time of her retirement, Professor Hamilton had provided 23 years of distinguished service to Georgia Southern, concluding a career of over 40 years of service as an academic librarian. Prior to coming to Georgia Southern,Professor Hamilton served at Birmingham-Southern College, Virginia Intermont College, and the University of Alabama.During her time at Georgia Southern, Professor Hamilton served as the Library project manager for the expansion and renovation of Henderson Library from 2000 through 2008. More recently, she led teams that submitted successful applications for National Endowment for the Humanities’ funding for Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys and Let’s Talk About It: Muslim Journeys. Her campus service has included membership on the Research Advisory Board; SACSCOC Reaffirmation Team (2013-2015); SACSCOC Leadership Team (2010-2011); American Democracy Project Steering Committee; Faculty Welfare Committee; Faculty Development Committee; Faculty Senate; Y2K Task Force; Athletic Committee; Resource Analysis Committee; and the Senate Operations Committee. Professor Hamilton has been very active in professional associations at the state, regional, and national levels. Some of her service has included representing the Georgia Library Association on the American Library Association (ALA) Council for 12 years, serving as chair or member of the ALA Chapter Relations Committee for eight years, serving as chair or a member of the Association of College and Research Libraries/Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) Interdivisional Committee on Building Resources for eight years, and serving as president of the Southeastern Library Association and of the Georgia Library Association. She has received the Bob Richardson Award for Signifcant Contributions to the Georgia Library Association, the Mary Utopia Rothrock Award from the Southeastern Library Association, and the Nix-Jones Award for Signifcant Contributions to the Library Profession from the Georgia Library Association. For these and other contributions to the Library, the University, and the profession, Professor Ann Hamilton has earned the title of Professor Emerita and Associate Dean Emerita.
