Prof. Trupe joined Georgia Southern University in 1998 and retired in 2016.

Dr. Trupe earned his Bachelor of Science in Geology (1985) from George Mason University. He earned his Master of Science in Geology (1989) and Doctor of Philosophy in Geology (1997) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Trupe taught geology courses at Appalachian State University as a visiting assistant professor before coming to Georgia Southern University in 1998. At the time of his retirement, he will have provided 18 years of distinguished service to Georgia Southern University. As an assistant professor and associate professor of geology, Dr. Trupe taught introductory physical geology and environmental geology courses, and upper-level courses in structural geology, feld methods, and tectonics. He was the recipient of the College of Science and Mathematics Excellence in Teaching Award in 2005. Dr. Trupe’s research is focused on the structural geology and tectonics of the southern Appalachian Mountains, particularly the segment of the Blue Ridge Mountains along the Tennessee-North Carolina border. His research is feld-based and involved many undergraduate research students, of whom most went on to earn graduate degrees in geology afer leaving Georgia Southern. Dr. Trupe is active with professional organizations, including the Carolina Geological Society, of which he is a past-president and board member, and the Geological Society of America, serving as Southeastern Section Management Board Chair, member of the Student Support Committee, and member of several organizing committees for annual meetings. During his tenure at Georgia Southern, he served on numerous committees including the College of Science and Mathematics Tenure and Promotion Committee, Faculty Governance Committee, Awards Committee, and Academic Excellence Committee, the College of Science and Mathematics Course and Curriculum Committee, the University Faculty Grievance Committee, and the University Faculty Technology Advisory Committee. Dr. Trupe was appointed the frst Associate Chair of the Department of Geology and Geography in 2012, serving until 2016. In recognition of his commitment and dedicated service to the department, college, University, and profession, Dr. Charles H. Trupe, III merits the title of Associate Professor Emeritus of Geology.*
