Prof. Geyerman joined Georgia Southern University in 1987 and retired in 2026.

 — Biography from the 2026 Spring Commencement program — 

Associate Professor of Communication Arts, who retired January 1, 2026. Dr. Geyerman holds a BA from Utah State University (1983), an MA from Eastern Illinois University (1984), and a PhD from Southern Illinois University (1991). Dr. Geyerman taught courses in media criticism, rhetorical criticism, rhetoric of social movements, rhetoric of international relations, philosophy of communication, general semantics and communication and conflict at Georgia Southern University. His research interests included rhetorical and media criticism, cultural studies, the rhetoric of sports, and the rhetoric of social problems. In addition to serving as our NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative, Dr. Geyerman has been recognized as a University System of Georgia Governor’s Teaching Fellow by the Institute for Higher Education at the University of Georgia and has received the Georgia Southern University Award for Excellence in Contributions to Service. For his significant contributions to the institution and our students, Dr. Chris Geyerman is deserving of the title Associate Professor of Communication Arts Emeritus.*
