About
Elizabeth Rahilly, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Sociology at Georgia Southern University, with a joint appointment in the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program. She completed her M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from U.C. Santa Barbara, and holds an undergraduate degree in Anthropology from NYU, where her passion for studying human society and culture was first ignited. Her research and teaching interests concern gender, parenting, LGBT+ issues, trans youth, political discourse, social theory, and qualitative methodology. Her work has been published in multiple academic journal outlets, including Gender & Society, Sexuality & Culture, Journal of Family Studies, Discourse & Society, Sociological Inquiry, LGBTQ+ Family, and PS: Political Science & Politics. She also published a book with NYU Press in 2020 regarding parents who raise and support transgender children, Trans-Affirmative Parenting: Raising Kids Across the Gender Spectrum. Dr. Rahilly joined Georgia Southern University in 2019, and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2025.
