Personal profile
About
Eight years of teaching experience in sport management and research experience in athlete development. This coming semester (Fall 2025), I will be teaching introduction to sport management and sport finance at the undergraduate level, and athlete development at the master's level.
I have taught numerous courses at the undergraduate level, including sport ethics, sport sociology, career readiness, sport career transition, sport finance, and the internship course. At the master’s level, I have taught sport sociology, management and leadership, sport finance, research methods, and athlete development. I have also conducted doctoral seminars in research design, statistics and athlete development. My previous academic appointments include University of Florida, Georgia State, and Washington State.
My research focuses on the career and talent development of athletes, and their sport career transition. Through this research agenda, I have used various quantitative methodologies and examined concepts such as career identity, career planning, athletic career transition, academic-athletic role conflict, elite youth sport participation, and relative age effects.
One of the overarching goals of my research is to examine identity formation processes and resources that can help both current and former athletes establish a career identity beyond their athletic career, enhance their well-being and promote optimal psychosocial functioning post-sport life. I have another related stream of research that seeks to evaluate career development programs and economic policies and systems designed to influence the development of athletes both on and off the field. My research has been published in the Journal of Career Assessment, Journal of Counseling & Development, Quest (Kinesiology), Frontiers in Psychology, Social Science Quarterly, Psychological Reports, International Journal of Sports Science & Coaching, and Journal of Amateur Sport.
