About

Professor Altman joined the faculty of Georgia Southern University in 2005. During her time at Georgia Southern she has researched and consulted on Cherokee language revitalization efforts in NC and OK. At the same time she has had an abiding interest in language as a medium for expression of ideas about and experiences of health and well-being. Most recently she has investigated those interests through the Georgia Moms Project, which collects interviews with people who have given birth in Georgia and examines their narratives for experiences related to the maternal mortality crisis in Georgia.
