Prof. LoBue joined Georgia Southern University in 1993 and retired in 2023.

— Biography from the 2023 Spring Commencement program —

Dr. LoBue earned a BA (1978) from Carleton College and a PhD (1986) from Wesleyan University. For nearly 30 years, Dr. LoBue has been a beloved faculty member, teaching primarily Physical Chemistry and General Chemistry to students of all levels. In addition, he developed a summer course for public school teachers, Molecular Visualization in Chemistry, and co-developed a Research Methods in Chemistry course that was part of the department curriculum for several years. Dr. LoBue is well known for his willingness to support colleagues, graduate students, and undergraduate students with project assistance and committee work. He has given freely of his time to offer advice to all, especially to junior faculty. Dr. LoBue works extensively with the College of Education in supporting and preparing science and math majors to teach in middle and high schools. He received National Science Foundation funding through the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program to support this critical work. Dr. LoBue enjoys introducing students to research in physical chemistry investigating the use of compounds that can cause the transformation of dissolved oxygen into potential antitumor agents simply by absorbing light. He has mentored many students in their preparation for graduate and professional school. Dr. LoBue’s service to the department, university, and community was recognized by the college with an award for service and with a Faculty Member of the Year award. He readily volunteers when help is needed for Science Olympiad, the FYE program, the Living Learning Community for science majors, Faculty Senate, the local American Chemical Society section, and local civic organizations. Dr. LoBue’s teaching, service, and scholarly accomplishments at Georgia Southern University have been longstanding and impactful, making his recognition as Associate Professor Emeritus of Chemistry well deserved.*
