Dr. Walker earned her Associate of Science degree from Kennesaw College in 1978. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts (1994), Master of Arts (1996), and Doctorate of Philosophy (1999) degrees from the University of South Florida. At the time of her retirement, Dr. Walker will have taught 20 years at Georgia Southern University. During her tenure, she established herself as a nationally known scholar on computers and writing. She has received multiple awards for scholarship, service and technological innovation. Dr. Walker co-wrote several books, including a textbook on research and writing that went into a third edition, and she wrote or co-wrote dozens of articles and book chapters. Dr. Walker has given several dozen conference presentations, and conferences have been a large part of her service to her discipline. Dr. Walker long supported the Graduate Research Network through the annual Computers and Writing conference. She also started the Georgia Conference on Information Literacy and led its development into the Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy. Dr. Walker has also distinguished herself in teaching at Georgia Southern. She was an early adopter of online teaching practices, which is reflected in her scholarship. She has taught at least 15 different courses here, working with undergraduate and graduate students. Her name is recognizable to colleagues in rhetoric and writing programs across the United States, and her national reputation has brought recognition to the University. For these and numerous other contributions to the department, college, University and profession, Dr. Janice Walker merits the title of Professor Emerita of English.*
