Personal profile
About
My primary research focus is in autonomy supportive sport coaching/college teaching, grounded in self-determination theory. I have investigated the use of need-supportive behaviors among physical education teachers, youth sport coaches, and university teaching assistants. I also examine coaches' perceptions of need satisfaction and motivation for coaching in both formal and informal learning environments. In working with colleagues, I also have focused on studies related to the scholarship of teaching and learning, concussion diagnostics, obesity bias, early sport specialization, burnout, and motives for physical activity. More recently, I have begun working on projects related to learning analytics at the course level, understanding how coaches seek knowledge and information, and developing health and fitness programs for military and other tactical populations.
