About
Prof. Darley joined Georgia Southern University in 2011 and retired in 2016.

Dr. Darley earned her B.S. in Mathematics Education (1982) and M.Ed. in Secondary Mathematics (1984) from Georgia Southern College. She received her Ph.D. in Mathematics Education (2005) from the University of South Carolina. Beginning her teaching career in local high schools, she joined the faculty at Georgia Southern as a temporary instructor in 1991. In that role, she taught learning support, core level mathematics and mathematics education courses. In 2003, she returned to high school teaching while completing her doctorate. Afer completing her doctorate, she again taught at Georgia Southern in a permanent position, earning promotion to Associate Professor in 2011. She provided outstand - ing instruction to future teachers and set an excellent example for them to follow. In addition to her teaching duties, Dr. Darley was the conference organizer for the annual Georgia Scholarship of STEM Teaching and Learning Conference held at Georgia Southern from 2012 through 2016; a Faculty Fellow with the I2STEMe institute; and co-developer and co-teacher of the New Faculty Workshop for new hires in the College of Science and Mathematics held each summer. She was active in the department’s annual mathematics tournament and the University’s STEM Fest. Dr. Darley also served the profession as an ofcer in the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Georgia Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators. Her scholarship includes four refereed publications in national journals and senior personnel on two grant projects for mathematics education. She has presented over 30 workshops to teachers and attended numerous conferences on the teaching and learning of mathematics. For her many contributions to the department, college, University, and profession, Dr. Joy Darley has earned the title of Associate Professor Emerita of Mathematics Education.*
