About

Dr. Lei Chen is Tenured Full Professor and the Graduate Program Director for the Department of Information Technology at Georgia Southern University. He received his B.Eng. in Computer Science and Applications from China in 2000, and PhD. in Computer Science and Software Engineering from Auburn University, USA, in 2007. He joined Georgia Southern University in 2015, before when he was with the Department of Computer Science at Sam Houston State University for eight years as Assistant Professor and later Tenured Associate Professor. He also served as the Graduate Program Coordinator for all three master programs (with an enrollment of about 100) and four graduate certificate programs offered by the department at SHSU.
 
Dr. Chen’s research interests focus on the security, privacy and digital forensics of networks, information, cloud, Big Data, and mobile, handheld and wireless networks. His extended research reaches the areas of computer networking, multimedia networking, network routing, and artificial intelligence. He started research as a graduate research assistant for 5 years at Auburn University and worked as Vodafone Research Fellow during his PhD. study. In the past 15 years, Dr. Chen has authored or co-authored over 150 peer-reviewed scholarly works, including journal papers, book chapters, and conference proceeding papers. His edited book “Wireless Network Security: Theories and Practices”, published by Springer (U.S.) and Higher Education Press (HEP) in August 2013, has received over 15,900 combined downloads. He has secured more than $3M to support his scholarly activities, with funding from U.S. federal sources such as the National Security Agency and National Science Foundation.
