— Biography from the 2024 Fall Commencement program —
Dr. Mullen earned a BA in Speech Communication and Rhetoric (1976) from Western Michigan University and an MBA (1997) and Ph.D. (2005) in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She began her journey at Georgia Southern University as an Assistant Professor of Marketing and, over the years, has had the privilege of witnessing our institution's growth and transformation firsthand. She earned tenure in 2008 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2012. Beyond these milestones, her greatest pride has been establishing and developing the Center for Sales Excellence, which has benefitted countless marketing and sales students over the years. In addition to her academic pursuits, Dr. Mullen's joy has come from leading students on Business Abroad trips, guiding them through Sales Competitions, and facilitating Career Fairs that have helped launch many promising, successful careers. Her passion for teaching, particularly with success in marketing for sales emphasis majors, has been evident in the full classrooms and her students’ post-graduation careers. Dr. Mullen’s scholarly work has also left a significant mark. Over the years, she has published research in several esteemed journals, including the Journal of Applied Theory, the Journal of Selling, the International Journal for Business Education, the Accounting Educators' Journal, the Journal for the Advancement of Marketing Education, The CPA Journal, and Marketing Education Review. For outstanding contributions to the discipline, the University and her students, Dr. Mullen is deserving of the title Associate Professor Emerita of Marketing.*
