Prof. Lisa Yocco is a retired assistant professor for the Department of Mathematical Science at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. She retired in 2015.
Mission Statement: Since 2003, I have been very active in the development of Math 1101, the Math Modeling course that serves as an alternative to College Algebra for students who do not go on to trigonometry or calculus. Mathematical Modeling is designed to provide the algebraic background needed for success in most majors other than the physical sciences and engineering. I have been instrumental in developing this course and promoting its usefulness to the student population as a course that shows how mathematics relates the real world to their future fields of study.
In the Fall of 2010 I developed and implemented the hybrid course for Math 1101, Math Modeling. This included creating all online materials, quizzes, homework, tests, through MyMathLab for all sections of the course. In the Summer of 2011 I developed an online course for Math 1101, Math Modeling, and have taught the online course in Summers 2011 and 2012. I completed “Developing and Teaching an Online Course” through the Center of Online Learning at Georgia Southern University, and consequently built 9 modules for the online courseIn 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.
