PhD/graduate projects

1. AI-Based Smart Healthcare System using Quantum Sensing and Wearables: Developed NeuroVisual-Q, a thought-aware healthcare system integrating EEG, fNIRS, and physiological signals with quantum-calibrated models to decode pre-action intent. The system provides real-time preventive recommendations for conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular stress, emphasizing explainability and user-centered design. 2. AI-driven Cybersecurity Red-Teaming Lab: Established a red-teaming framework to investigate vulnerabilities in large language models, mobile devices, and federated learning systems. Designed experiments for adversarial prompt injection, malicious client simulation, and Deepfake-driven medical imaging attacks, while proposing layered defenses including forensic verification and anomaly detection. 3. Smart Agriculture: IoT-Based Irrigation and Nutrient Management: Created an IoT-driven framework that integrates soil sensors, drones, and machine learning for precision irrigation and nutrient application. The system merges evapotranspiration models with real-time soil data, incorporates renewable energy for IoT devices, and applies blockchain protocols for data integrity, aiming to boost crop yields while reducing water and fertilizer waste.

About

Professor Rana is an analytical thinker with strong problem-solving and leadership skills. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), United States, and joined Georgia Southern University in Fall 2025. Prior to that, he served at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Florida Gulf Coast University, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has extensive experience in data science and a solid foundation in mathematics and statistical model development. With over six years of research experience in applied cybersecurity and data science—including image processing, computer vision, artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, and data mining—he brings hands-on expertise in applying advanced statistical techniques and modern machine learning methods.

Before beginning his doctoral studies, Professor Rana worked as a Senior Lecturer at Daffodil International University (DIU). He also gained over six years of professional experience in the technology industry in Bangladesh. His research interests include data science, machine learning, applied cybersecurity, digital image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition, e-learning, algorithm design, and blockchain technologies.

Alongside his strong research background, Professor Rana is currently prioritizing teaching while continuing his research. He has a deep passion for education and greatly enjoys working with students from diverse backgrounds. Whether mentoring beginners or guiding advanced research-oriented students, he finds fulfillment in fostering curiosity, growth, and innovation in the classroom.
