Dr. Vogel earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics from Hanover College in 1970. He received a Master of Arts degree in mathematics from the University of Louisville in 1978. In 1983, he completed his doctoral studies at Emory University, earning his Doctor of Philosophy in biometry and statistics. Prior to corning to Georgia Southern University, he held faculty and administrative positions at Mercer University, the Medical Center of Central Georgia, the University of Louisville, and Queens University of Charlotte. He came to Georgia Southern University in 2003 to help develop a Master of Public Health degree in biostatistics. Dr. Vogel is one of the original faculty members of the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health, serving in various roles during the initial accreditation process and reaccreditation processes. He designed the Master of Public Health in epidemiology and helped develop the Doctor of Public Health in biostatistics. He also led the development of the Doctor of Public Health in epidemiology. During his tenure, Dr. Vogel has taught numerous courses in biostatistics, including Regressing Analysis, Experimental Design, Categorical Data Analysis, Survival Analysis, Missing Data Analysis, and Longitudinal Data Analysis. He has directed three dissertations involving missing data, several dissertations on other aspects of public health, and served as a member on at least a dozen other dissertations in public health. Dr. Vogel served as the first chair of the Department of Biostatistics and then the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Environmental Health Sciences. His research consists of over 250 publications and presentations in medicine and statistical methodology. Dr. Vogel's work has been published in a variety of journals, including American Heart Journal, British Journal of Cancer, Journal of lnterventional Cardiology, New England Journal of Medicine, Statistics in Medicine, Statistical Methods in Medical Research, and Journal of Statistical Methodology. In 2011, Dr. Vogel won the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health award for Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring. In 2013, he was inducted into the Gamma Theta Chapter of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health Education and was also awarded the Academic Achievement Award from the American Public Health Association Applied Statistics Section. For these and many other distinguished accomplishments too numerous to mention here, Dr. Robert L. Vogel deserves the title of Professor Emeritus of Biostatistics.*
