Ronald J. MacKinnon (EdD Math), Associate Professor Emeritus of Information Systems, was chair of a Math, CS & IS Dept and the chair of an IS Dept who also ran graduate studies and Continuing Education at his former university (St F X University). he was awarded emeritus status on June 1, 2018. He also ran the university computer center and a computer network of 14 universities. MacKinnon established the leading ERP/SAP university program in Canada at his former university.

 

He was a computer consultant for the government of Canada in India to recommend hardware and software for the Staff College of India. He was a computer consultant to the governments of Canada and the four Atlantic provinces to recommend how 19 universities could cooperate with computers.

 

MacKinnon came to Georgia Southern in 2001 to teach about ERP/SAP to all first year BBA students. He was asked to stay at Georgia Southern and created the first ERP/SAP course, which he taught for several years. At Georgia Southern he has taught, ERP/SAP, global IS and large (250-550 students) classes of computer concepts. MacKinnon was the Georgia Southern SAP coordinator for several years.

 

He has published in Issues of ISJournal of Financial EducationJournal of Higher Education: Theory and Practice and other publications. MacKinnon has been a university faculty member since 1961 (55 years), 40 years at StFXU and 16 years at Georgia Southern. He has taught at San Diego SU, Oklahoma SU, the U of the Virgin Islands and St. Francis Xavier U.
