Prof. Sharman joined Georgia Southern University in 1997 and retired in 2026.

Dr. Sharman received her BS from the University of Mississippi (1984), her MEd and MAT from East Tennessee State University (1992), and PhD from the University of Georgia (1997). A full-time faculty member since 2004, Dr. Sharman also served in a variety of administrative positions at East Georgia State College, including Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, Chair of the Faculty Grievance Committee, and committee member supporting the Academic Policies, Comprehensive Program Review, and Quality Enhancement Plan committees. In her role as Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, she worked closely with the University System of Georgia in several major academic initiatives, including Chancellor’s Learning Scholars, the Momentum Initiative, USG Mental Health Initiative, and Complete College Georgia, among others. Dr. Sharman was a key member of East Georgia’s SACSCOC decennial review team in 2021 and lead the Correll Scholars Program. Always eager to remain current in her field, she was the presenter or invited lecturer at 23 professional events. Dr. Sharman taught an array of classes, including the first-year Student Success course, Learning Support Reading, Regents’ Reading, and the pre-professional series in Education, Investigating Critical and Contemporary Issues in Education, Cultural Diversity, and Exploring Teaching and Learning. Dr. Sharman has been active in her local church and community, assisting with the Georgia Southern Museum’s, Feed the Mosasaur fundraiser, speaking to civic groups, serving on parent support groups for local schools, and serving as an invited guest at the Statesboro Scottish Society’s annual Robert Burns dinner. For her commitment to the institution, her students, and her community, Dr. Shandra Sharman is deserving of the title Professor of Education Emerita.*
