About
Ty W. Boyer, Ph.D., is a Professor and Department Chair in the Georgia Southern University Department of Psychology. He earned a B.S. from Arizona State University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland and was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the University of Chicago Department of Psychology and a Research Associate in the Indiana University Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences. Dr. Boyer studies cognition and perception, and, more specifically, how we understand number, probability, space, and actions, reason and make decisions, and how these are attributable to early-emerging biases and develop through learning and maturation. His research has been published in some of the leading journals in cognitive, developmental, and experimental psychology. Dr. Boyer teaches classes in research methods, analysis, and developmental psychology. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology and the Journal of Cognition and Development, was an Associate Editor at Child Development, and frequently reviews submitted journal manuscripts. His main professional focus over the past few years has been in Departmental administration, leading the efforts of 25 full-time permanent faculty colleagues who are teaching 1400 undergraduate majors and 80 graduate students and conducting field-leading research.
