Biography, Disciplines and Teaching Interests
Dr. Mase is an Associate Professor of Health Policy and Management. Dr. Mase earned his doctorate in public health from the University of Kentucky College of Public Health.  He also earned master’s degrees in public health from the Ohio State University College of Public Health and a Master of Arts in Sociology from West Virginia University Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Mase brings over 25 years of experience as both an academic and practice-based public health professional.  Prior to joining the faculty of Georgia Southern University, Dr. Mase served as Director of Public Health at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (2008 – 2014) and Associate Director of Public Health at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University (2004-2008).  In his first four years on faculty at Georgia Southern University, Dr. Mase brought $935,000 in extramural grant funding to the institution (2014-2018).  Funded initiatives included rural hospital stabilization, local public health department accreditation, disease intervention specialist competency & knowledge assessment, community health planning, and healthcare workforce development.  Total grant funding over his 25-year career equals $5,225,000 and he has been funded to lead grant initiates by federal agencies including the Food and Drug Administration, Health Services Research Administration, the United States Department of Health & Human Services, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Proctor & Gamble Corporation Charitable Giving, the Ohio Department of Health, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the Georgia Department of Community Health and the Healthcare Georgia Foundation.  Dr. Mase’s primary line of research is public health systems and healthcare services.  He teaches health policy, regulation, and ethics at the masters and doctoral student level.
