He also holds an MS in Electrical Engineering (1991) with a concentration in Power Systems, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (1989) focusing on Control Systems, both from Cleveland State University. Dr. Kalaani has over 28 years of academic experience with notable achievements at all levels. He is a licensed professional engineer and a senior member of IEEE. He has been recognized for his service to the profession, including his role as an ABET program evaluator. Dr. Kalaani has served for over 10 years leading or chairing the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Georgia Southern University, where he played a critical role in establishing the department following the State Board of Regents’ approval of the university’s engineering programs. His leadership and dedication to fostering a teacher-scholar model have defined his career at Georgia Southern, where he has made significant contributions both administratively and academically. Joining the university in 2006 as an Assistant Professor in the former Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technology, Dr. Kalaani revitalized the Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) program and was instrumental in the planning and launch of the Electrical Engineering Program. He held various leadership roles, including Interim Chair in 2012, Associate Chair in 2014, and Permanent Chair in 2016, overseeing the department’s expansion with the introduction of the BS in Computer Engineering and the MS in Electrical Engineering in 2017. Under his leadership, the MSEE program was extended to the US Airbase at Warner Robins in 2019, alongside the introduction of the 4+1 Accelerated Bachelor to Master’s Program. His tenure was marked by the department’s growth into one of the most efficient and successful in the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing, with all programs achieving ABET accreditation. Dr. Kalaani leaves behind a legacy of excellence, having significantly impacted the department and the university through his leadership, teaching, and dedication to student and faculty success, all of which make him deserving of the title Professor Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering.*
