Abstract

Today's 3D printers are mostly capable of printing polymer-based materials. Extensive research needs to be done to find innovative and versatile materials that can be printed through 3D printers. As a 3D printing material, a wood-polymer composite will provide versatile flexibility in the area of architecture, engineering, medical industries, jewelries, aerospace industries, automotive industries, and education. In the current research a brief review of wood-plastic composites was conducted. Focuses were given on different types of polymer matrices, types of woods and wood fibers, and processes. The enhancements of mechanical properties that were achieved in different researches through the composite materials have been discussed. Finally, possible uses of wood-polymer-composite as 3D printer filaments have been discussed.
