A review of the railroad development in southeast Georgia as it pertains to RoRo cargo

In 2006, the regional development authority completed a connector track to facilitate the movement of roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) cargo to and from the Port of Brunswick Colonel’s Island Terminal. The purpose was to improve efficiencies in the logistical delivery system, which in turn would lead to an increase in port activity and a corresponding increase in international trade. This paper will review the impact the connector has had on the movement of goods from the port to its destination in the southeastern United States. The authors developed two models to quantify the connector’s impact. One model looked at any improvements to the logistical pipeline resulting from the enhancement to the transit time. The other quantified the growth in port activity attributable to these enhancements.
