Abstract
A computer algebra system can be used to enhance numerous courses in applied mathematics. Not only can they alleviate the computational difficulties encountered, but they can offer the advantage of visualizing solutions. The solution of standard problems found in the study of ordinary and partial differential equations such as spring motion and the wave equation will be demonstrated as will other applications which cannot be solved without the aid of a computer algebra system. Results obtained through the use of Mathematica and Maple will be discussed.
