Abstract

In this paper, an unbalanced, linear polarized passive UHF RFID tag antenna with a central frequency of 918MHz is designed and presented. The proposed antenna has a length of 60.0 mm (0.184λ) and a width of 25.4 mm (0.078λ). The loop structure on one end and the T-shape spiral arm on the other end make the antenna geometrically unbalanced and form the paddle lock structure. The antenna is closely matched with the conjugate of the Higgs 3 RFID IC chip impedance. The impedance of the proposed RFID tag antenna is 18.3 + j136.6 ω at 918 MHz and the antenna creates an omni-directional radiation pattern as that of a conventional λ/2 dipole antenna. The bandwidth of the antenna is 0.98% and the efficiency is 87%.
