Abstract

Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) 4.0 represents a transformative approach to material inspection by integrating advanced smart technologies. By leveraging smart sensors, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML), and wireless communication, NDE 4.0 significantly enhances the reliability and accuracy of inspections through sophisticated data fusion techniques. This innovative approach moves beyond merely increasing data volume or introducing new NDE methods, focusing instead on comprehensive data integration and intelligent analysis. The primary objective is to develop systems capable of acquiring data from both traditional and smart sensors, performing necessary data fusion, and automatically identifying defect regions with high precision, ultimately providing detailed visual representations like 2D or 3D images. Emphasizing scientific principles and addressing big-data-induced errors are crucial for ensuring the practical and reliable implementation of NDE 4.0. These advancements offer cost-effective solutions for various industries, transforming NDE from a cost center to a value center. The success of NDE 4.0 lies not only in managing larger data volumes but also in the intelligent analysis of integrated data from multiple sources.
