Abstract

The role of artificial neural networks and genetic algorithms for the detection of gear faults was discussed. Multilayer perceptrons (MLP) and radial basis functions (RBF) are most commonly used ANN and used in the area of machine condition monitoring. Genetic algorithms have been used to make the classification process faster and accurate using minimal number of features. Results of MLP and GA have been used for fault detection of gears using only time domain features of vibration signals.
