Best Approximation in Normed Linear Spaces and Degree Reduction of Spline Functions

Research output: Contribution to conferencePresentation

Abstract

In this talk we apply some standard results of approximation in normed linear spaces to the problem of degree reduction of spline functions. In particular, we derive an optimality condition for the optimal placement of knots, and we solve a particular constrained approximation problem by the method of alternating projections. This talk is in conjunction with the graduate Functional Analysis class.
