Research output: Contribution to book or proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

The cases in this chapter take a closer look at policies we create as teachers and leaders, as well as those that come from outside our classrooms. Each case provides a brief description of the policies or procedures in place, but the real focus is on how teachers respond to the policies and procedures and the influence of such actions that impact equity in the elementary math classroom. The cases are titled Case 3.1 First-Year Classroom Management, Case 3.2 Differing Perspectives on Teaching Math Word Problems, Case 3.3 Managing Manipulatives to Avoid Mishap, Case 3.4 One Teacher's Push for Inclusive Policies Beyond the Classroom, and Case 3.5 Identifying Students for the Gifted Program. Following each case, you’ll find reflection questions to promote deeper thinking and critical analysis. These questions invite you to challenge your thinking and connect the case to your own classroom experiences.
