Abstract
“Catholic Girl Gun Club” takes place in a Kansas military town in 1926, where head nun Sister Perpetua drills the local Catholic schoolgirls in rifle routines, shaping them into expert marksmen to defend their town from a Russian invasion, which the paranoid Perpetua believes is imminent. The girls, however, are not quite convinced on the subject of the Communist threat, and they start to question their teachings. Partly a coming-of-age story, the show tackles several different issues, including feminism, gender roles and challenges veterans face as they reintegrate into civilian life.
