Abstract

The fluid dynamics of a gas turbine, stator-stage, with variable inlet temperature, is numerically studied using the large-eddy simulation and improved delayed detached eddy simulation approaches. The goal of the present research is to understand the effect of the time-dependent inlet temperature on the fluid dynamics and aerodynamic coefficients of a gas turbine stator-stage. Particularly the study concerns the effect of variable temperature on the flow separation, dynamic stall, and implicitly on the aerodynamic coefficients. The computational studies are carried out in a rotating frame of reference. The analysis is carried out for high-Reynolds number flow, Re = 1.2x105.
