Creating Open-Source Self-Assessment Quizzes on LibGuides in General Chemistry Course for Engineering Majors

Research output: Contribution to conferencePresentationpeer-review

Abstract

Studies have shown that formative assessments such as self-assessments give students the means, motive, and opportunity to take control of their learning. As part of the Affordable Learning Georgia continuous improvement grant, we designed interactive self-assessments as ancillary materials for our previously designed open-source LibGuides textbook for Comprehensive General Chemistry (CHEM 1310) course. To render the self-assessment questions more useful for struggling students, we added short concept video quizzes at the beginning of six self-assessment topics. Our study will present the format of the self-assessments, the platform used, and results comparing final exam scores between control and treatment groups.
