Abstract

A wideband microstrip patch antenna with a hexagonal wide-slot is proposed for circular polarization. In simulation, the achieved operational-10-dB impedance bandwidth is between 1.49 GHz and 3.75 GHz (86%) and 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth is between 2.05 GHz and 3.10 GHz (41%). The 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth is fully included in the-10-dB impedance bandwidth. The realized gain in average of the antenna is 7.5 dBic in the common bandwidth between the-10-dB impedance bandwidth and 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth. The total volume of the antenna is 0.35λ×0.35λ×0.19λ and the electrical size is a kr of 1.31.
