Abstract
Despite general design considerations, detailed calculations for long-term deformation of materials and deflection of deck are necessary. Creep of concrete may cause excess deflection either in construction stage or in the bridge's service life and may lead to redistributions in internal forces and stresses. Time-dependent deflections in prestressed concrete box-girder bridges, due to creep of concrete are investigated. Three dimensional finite-element models of the mentioned bridges, including effects of the load history, material nonlinearity, creep and aging of concrete were developed using ABAQUS software. The step-by-step procedure allows simulating the construction stages, effects of timedependent deformations of materials and changes in the bridges' structural system. Different examples of bridges are studied over thirty-year duration. Deflections of mid-span and longitudinal profiles of the bridge during different construction stages and different ages after completion of structure are shown. Simple but practical equations for deflections are developed, taking into account creep effects and aging of concrete.
