Abstract

This study was conducted to 1) to design and develop an emotion control treatment based on Kuhl’s (1987) notion of emotion control within his action control theory as well as Gross’s (1998, 2008) emotion regulation strategies and 2) to investigate the effects of the emotion control treatment on students’ academic emotions, motivation, and achievement in a college mathematics course. Participants were 95 students enrolled in an algebra and trigonometry course utilizing Web-based course materials and computer-based testing. The design and development of the treatment material as well as findings are discussed.
