Abstract

We have studied the energy transfer processes in Pr3+- and Er3+-codoped CaAl12O19 crystal from 12 to 290 K. We observed energy transfer from Pr3+ to Er3+ ions in this system. The transfer can partially convert the 1S0 UV fluorescence of Pr3+ into the characteristic green emission of Er3+. The efficiency of the energy transfer has been estimated based on the spectroscopic data and is of the order of 25% at room temperature. The temperature dependence on the transfer is also discussed.
