Abstract

This project provides another avenue of support for sustainable development through enhanced understanding of the relationships between manufacturing strategy, operational excellence, employee involvement, and environmental excellence. Newman and Hanna (1994) provide a theoretical model illustrating the potential synergies between environmental improvement and the manufacturing strategy concepts of `Order Winning' and `Order Qualifying' criteria. Empirical evidence generated from five years of statewide employee involvement competitions in the State of Ohio will be used to provide insight into the robustness of Newman and Hanna's theoretical model.
