Abstract

Statisticians in liberal arts colleges/universities and community colleges teach many students the only statistics course they will ever have. In many instances they are the only statistician on campus (hence, isolated). The challenges and rewards of a career in these environments are different from those in research universities, as can be the tenure and promotion process. Many graduate students and younger statisticians who are familiar with life in the research university may well not consider these opportunities due to unfamiliarity. The panelists will discuss their experiences, passing on valuable knowledge to attendees, including tips for the job search, negotiating the offer and acceptance, and considerations toward tenure and promotion.
