Abstract

Electric dipole transitions within 4 f2 configuration of Pr3+ in SrAl12 O19 are calculated by a model in which the mixing of the 4 f2 transitional states with explicit 4f5d states is considered. The main 4f5d components mixed into 4 f2 initial and final states are determined by the standard tensorial analysis. Meanwhile, a new set of intensity parameters, Tkq, are introduced and treated as empirically fitted parameters. The fitted values, T33 =1.63× 10-5 and T53 =2.56× 10-5, can be used to calculate the transition intensities between any two selected 4 f2 states. The results from the present model are compared with that from the Judd-Ofelt theory and the experimental measurements.
