Abstract

The article discusses a program at Canterbury School in Greensboro, North Carolina which incorporates the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to teach students about poverty and social responsibility. The MDG Explorers program emphasizes problem solving through a simulation in which 7th grade students role play as rural villagers and develop a village, create a form of government and deal with economic and social problems based on the MDGs. The author notes how students learn collectively while solving problems and working together.
