Abstract

Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanocomposite thin film reinforced with core/shell cadmium selenide (CdSe)/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) is fabricated and its physicochemical properties are characterized. A transparent and biodegradable PVA aqueous solution was made, and CdSe/ZnS QDs were dispersed under magnetic stirring. A method of drop-casting to evaporate the solvent was used to form PVA/QDs thin film. Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis) spectrum, with a narrow peak at about 556 nm, indicated uniformly dispersed QDs in the PVA matrix. The performance of the composite thin film was characterized by thermo gravity analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra and scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscope.
