Abstract
Ce, Nd co-doped YAG transparent ceramics with 0.3 at% Ce and 1.0 at% Nd were fabricated by solid-state reaction and vacuum sintering method for the first time. The microstructure, the optical transmittance and the spectral properties were investigated. The average grain size of the sample was about 5 μm. The transmittance of the sample with 1.5 mm thick reached more than 75% expect for the absorption bands. The intense near infrared emission due to the Nd3+ 4F3/2 → 4I11/2 was observed upon the 467 nm excitation through energy transfer from Ce3+ to Nd3+. The main emission peak was at 1064 nm and the fluorescence lifetime was 256 μs.
