Florida Open Academic Library: Process and Resources to Build a Federated Search in a Topical Area

Research output: Contribution to conferencePresentation

Abstract

In 2019, the Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative launched the Florida Open Academic Library (FOAL).  The FOAL allows someone to run a single search and search across all digital libraries maintained by Florida's public higher education system.  Running a search on FOAL is equivalent to running a search across 103 separate search boxes located on different sites.

This presentation covers the process and resources needed to build a similar search around any topical area, including law.  For anyone interested in centralized search of open access materials, this can help to understand the commitment needed and path forward to build a centralized search on any topical area, including legal topics or centralized search of legal scholarship.
