Abstract

We examine four-wave-mixing effects associated with three-photon pumping of potassium 4S_1/2 ground state to a coherent superposition of 4P_1/2 and 4P_3/2 states by 0.7 ps pulses from a free-electron laser source at 2.3 μm.
