Abstract

Teaching, learning and assessment in higher education are changing in the twenty-first century to take account of the post-pandemic context and the advances of artificial intelligence. Against a framework of established concepts of higher education pedagogy, this chapter centres around the pragmatic Race model of the key factors underpinning learning and offers practitioners grounded advice on breathing life into learning through sound curriculum design, delivery and assessment. Stressing the importance of designing good learning outcomes, which are meaningful to students and lecturers alike, the chapter asks readers to think beyond the outcomes towards creating a truly effective learning environment in which active learning and persistence thrive, and students are motivated to learn.
