Abstract

This paper elaborates the implementation of the time-domain directional TD32 protective function, introduced by SEL, in Matlab/Simulink. TD32 is a function of transmission line relay T401L made by SEL. We modeled TD23 based on the user manual of SEL T401L, and researchers who need to simulate this relay can use the model we made available on the IEEE DataPort. The algorithm of TD32 employs the theory of incremental quantities to identify the direction of a fault and find the fault type faster compared to the traditional frequency-domain directional algorithms. The solid performance of the implemented relay is verified by comparing its outputs with the recorded outputs of a T401L relay in response to a real-world fault.
