Abstract
The author is an associate professor in the Department of Curriculum, Foundations, and Research in the College of Education at Georgia Southern University. Fier work focuses on cross-cultural curriculum studies, narrative/narrative inquiry, and curriculum theory. She received her Ph.D. from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto in 1998. The assumption in the phrase “oppression to grace” implies development and growth from being freedom impoverished to freedom enriched. The cultural movements and the sense of in-betweenness were particularly poignant for the author because, he believes, these were intellectual reforms and the in-betweenness was essentially an intellectual in-betweenness. The author’s journey to North America dramatically shifted his positioning on what was foreign. This in-betweenness became more complicated as the author moved back and forth in between cultures in China and North America.
