Abstract
Presentation given at the International Textile and Apparel Association Annual Conference. A service learning component was added to an apparel construction course in the form of a shop that provided mending and alteration services to members of southeastern university campus community free of charge. The learning objectives for this project were to develop and practice apparel construction skills, to apply problem-solving techniques to apparel construction issues, and to develop and practice management skills, such as client communication, data management and mentorship skills. Student reflection papers indicated that the objectives of the shop were achieved and it will be continued for future semesters.
