Abstract
Despite basic gait normally being mastered early in life understanding gait still challenges experts. Ways of quantifying movement are constantly being proposed, utilized, and critiqued as others are using these methodologies to better understand the challenges produced by injury, disease, and amputation. Before delving into advanced gait topics, this introductory chapter provides a review of the basic concepts of gait biomechanics.
